An International Society for Virtual Rehabilitation Conference

Due to the Red Bull Air Race event on the 6th and 7th September in Porto, we strongly advise delegates to make early travel and accomodation arrangements.

Travelling to Maia

The conference location of Maia is easy to get to. Maia (click map to the right) is situated just 6 km from Porto's Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport (OPO) serving the city of Porto (also known as Oporto). This is the main airport for Porto.

Please note - if you are booking flights using Portugal's national carrier TAP, you will need to select OPORTO as the airport (and ignore the smaller coastal airports called Porto XYZ).

Other main airlines serving Porto include Air France, Easyjet, Iberia, Lufthansa, Ryanair, plus others. TAP Portugal flies has direct to many Eurpoean capitals and select intercontinental flights, with more available via connecting flight through Lisbon airport. Other options include travelling via another European hub, for example London Heathrow/Gatwick/Stansted.

The Metro can be used to get from the airport to Maia (requires one change - see below for Metro map) or direct to Porto centre. Travelling to Maia from the airport by taxi is a relatively inexpensive alternative.

Transport within Maia, Porto and Gaia region

Maia (below left) is approximately 20km north of the city of Porto (below right and bottom left) and the port cellars of Gaia (bottom right). Getting around is easy and inexpensive (by taxi or Metro). Further information is available at the Maia Tourism and Porto Tourism web sites - English language versions are available. Try other search engines also.
